The residents of kitui woke up on Monday to sad news about a fire which is said to have ravaged through crucial documents at the department of treasury registry. The fire is believed to have started at around 2am Monday morning. The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Kitui county sleuths by morning hours had secured the scene.
Social media platforms were awash with mixed reactions on the sad news of the inferno. The unfortunate incident was confirmed by the office of the deputy Governor by Dr wathe Nzau who issued a press release.
“Last night at about 2 am, fire started at the building that hosts Kitui county finance office, the county records office, and directorate of economic planning.
The county fire brigade moved in and contained the fire. We are yet to establish the full extent of the damage.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations have secured the scene and I urge speedy investigations into the cause of the fire, Her Excellency Governor charity Ngilu , who is out of the country on official duties, has been briefed on the incident.
She will issue a further statement on this unfortunate incident later today, We urge our staff and all citizens of Kitui to remain calm and not speculate as the investigating agencies get to the bottom of this, signed

Kitui minority leader also took to the social media to express his Shock, ” ladies and gentlemen,The people of Kitui and Kenyans at large woke up today to a rude shock of the razing down of the county offices (where all government payment vouchers are kept), I wish to express my concern over this latest development as a sad state of affairs in our once great county.
This comes at a time when different leaders and i have been pressing the County Govt (CE) to come clean on the expenditure of among others the last financial year spending,I am very sad indeed!
If the present happenings and top county leadership are anything to go by, then we must all be worried,The future of this county is now left to God alone,I call upon the investigative agencies to speed up the probe and ensure no stone is left unturned part of statement from Hon. Dennis Omwange: The unfortunate fire will not affect workers’ salaries nor will it delay payments to contractors, The IFMIS system (over which all payments are made) is live and intact and as such any new payments will be processed without any glitch,The office affected by the fire, are records of past payment only. Kitui Senator hon Enock wambua, as usual, took to the social media “Very sad that offices belonging to the Finance Department of the County Government of Kitui have gone up in flames. Very sad that the County fire engine has been out of order since it was bought. I have spoken to the County Commissioner and county head of AP. All suspects must be rounded up. Somebody must take responsibility.
I want to hear from none other than the Governor of Kitui County. This time around we shall not mince words. You can’t run a criminal enterprise and expect the people of Kitui to clap for you. There will be no place to hide for the culprits and their financiers. Enoch Kiio Wambua,
