By Barrack Muli
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu today said the county is on the cusp of change in the mining sector and improve the economy of the residents in view of her governments efforts to ensure the sector succeeds.
Speaking in Mithikwani area of Kitui West Sub county the Governor said she will vet the investors who are not active in prospecting the minerals to pave way for accelerated investments in the county.
She said mineral resources were vital in creating wealth for the county and that there was urgent need to fast track the development of the sector.
“Kitui has mineral resources that have been mismanaged by the existing investors. We will work together {with the community} to ensure all your needs are catered for”. She said.
Noting the community’s recommendation to have the mineral resources exploited without delay, Ngilu pledged to develop the artisanal mining program among the residents to ensure the community participates in the mineral exploitation exercise to earn incomes.
She urged the members who had already sold out their land to the mining company {ZHEN HUA Co } not to vacate immediately saying alternative land shall be provided for the investor.
On his part, community representative Joel Mutemi Nyotu said the community was ready to pave way for the mining activities on condition that the investor shall provide all adequate information on the progress and reasons for subsequent visits.
“This community fully supports mining; we are ready for immediate exploitation of copper ore in our area”. He said.
