Meet Janet Kioko ‘Cheupe’, the Prolific Women Rights Champion in Kibwezi East

When a whinning baby was discovered abadoned outside the popular Athusi Bar along Ukwala Road in Nairobi, a gathering crowd shuffled and looked on thunderstruck.

But in the midst of the seemingly clueless crowd was Janet Kioko, popularly known as Cheupe who after was receiving a call from Musyi Fm moved fast, rescued the baby and traced the mother.

Meet Kibwezi East’s top women leader and a prolific human rights and girl child champion.

Last month, Cheupe facilitated 12 vulnerable students to join Secondary schools through well wishers.

Nine other pupils also joined a local nursery school through her benevolent efforts.

Two other pupils were facilitated to join Secondary schools through the efforts of a local CBO known as SIKIZANA Trust headed by Cosmas Nzilili.

Born in Machinery, a sleepy village in Kambu town, Janet has been upbeat over women rights in Kibwezi.

She is also a popular women groups mobilizer who carries monthly training for over 2000 women in more than 56 groups Kibwezi East.

Cheupe is also involved in rescue of rape victims, vulnerable children and orphans.

last year she lobbied for 100 Wheelchairs for People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) to access wheelchairs in Kibwezi through GAAF.

“My capacity building activities include working with women groups. I train women in book-keeping, applications for financial grants, merry-go-round, table banking and linkages to access Government Funds for women and youths” she said speaking to the COUNTY DIARY.

As a human rights champion, Cheupe is loved and feared in equal measure.

She has been involved in solving myriad cases of corruption at Kambu Refferal Hospital.

Janet Kioko, a stakeholder at the hospital with other like minded partners lobbied to have the hospital upgraded from Level 4 to it’s current Refferal status.

“There was a particular clinical officer who was involved in fake P3 scandals whereby she used to fill the crime forms at her house without bothering to carry out investigative medical tests.i had her transferred. I am a champion Against corruption” she adds.

Janet Kioko is also a Wiper diehard and is supporting H.E Kalonzo Musyoka Presidential bid in 2022.

I also have several income generatinh activities including a saloni, schools supplies and farming.
