On Friday 28th April, 2023 – The County executive Member for Trade, Industry, MSMEs, Innovation and Cooperatives Madam Rose Mutuku assured the citizens that Malombe’s administration will continue to prioritized nurturing of local talents and skills in various fields like athletics, football, acting, music, modelling, tailoring, drawing and painting
The tCECM for Trade, Industry, MSMEs, Innovation and Cooperatives Rose Mutuku told the press.
She was speaking when she hosted officials of United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA), PRADA Group, Red Cross and representatives of the fashion industry for a courtesy call in her office.
“The County government is looking at creating and enhancing partnerships and collaborations with various partners in achieving its 16-sector development agenda of transforming livelihoods sustainably,” said the county minister.
She acknowledged the efforts by UNFPA towards reduction of unemployment and poverty levels in Kitui county citing the just concluded nine-month training of 13 young women from across the county in fashion and design.
The thirteen were beneficiaries of the ‘Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears’ program being piloted in Ghana and Kenya and aimed at leveraging the social and economic power of fashion as a vehicle to promote women’s empowerment and sexual and reproductive health.
UNFPA-Kenya Country Representative Caroline Murgor said the just trained fashionistas who graduated earlier on today at ATC Kitui will proceed to a three-month industrial attachment with local fashion houses based in Nairobi.
PRADA Groups Sandra Martey said the graduates had gained multi-faceted skills in garment making, textile design, millinery and accessories development and termed them as an inspiration to young designers around the world.
The beneficiaries were also gifted sewing machines to enable them to start cloth making ventures upon completing their attachments.
Also present during the courtesy meeting were Assistant Director for Branding Georgina Musembi and Kitui County Coordinator for Kenya Red Cross Dennis Tiko.
