WOTE: APRIL 21st 2021 -Makueni kicked off a campaign to plant one million trees as one of the climate action strategies to combat effects of climate change.
This campaign is part of a greater initiative to plant 2 million trees in the South Eastern Kenya region this year. President Uhuru Kenyatta will plant the two millionth tree seedling in Makueni during the 7th Annual Devolution Conference in August.
Governor Kivutha Kibwana who flagged off the exercise at Kamunyolo dam, Wote, said his administration aims to enhance the county forest cover from 13% to at least 18% by the year 2022.
Kibwana was flanked by the country manager Green Employment in Agriculture Programme (GEAP) Doreen Kinoti. GEAP, a brain child of Micro-Enterprises Support Programme Trust (MESPT) is donating 6,000 tree seedlings towards the campaign.
