It is reported that more than 600 students in Makindu, Makueni County, are pregnant.
This report follows attestation by officials which attempted to shed light on the mind-bending numbers.
Speaking during the launch of a school feeding program, which went down at Kisayani Market, Waithaka Wamburu, the chief education officer for Makindu Sub-county approved of the same.
Appearing vexed regarding the revelation, the chief education officer continued to point a blaming finger to the famine which has since muddled the area. Wamburu also attributed the numbers to the prolonged journey girls take on their way to school.
In this light, the Chief education officer appeared to disregard day secondary schools which tend to heighten the possibility of school-going girls getting pregnant.
This reminds us of similar pregnancy cases that dominated the cusp of 2021, informing parents to step up their parenting.
