Kitui Ndengu Farmers have today urged members of the Senate Committee on Agriculture to ensure that Ndengu in included in the Strategic food reserve along side Maize and Rice.
This was communicated by members of the public during a public participation forum on the proposed Senate led Ndengu bill, during the ongoing Senate Mashinani seatings in Kitui.
Other suggestions included, enhancing mechanization of agricultural practices in Ndengu growing areas, establishment of Aggregation Centres, and Ndengu Value Addition, along the Ndengu Value Chain.
On his part, Senator Njeru Ndwiga, the Chairman of the Committee told the stakeholders that the proposals shared by the residents were invaluable and would be factored in the bill.
The forum was also attended by members of the County Assembly committee on Agriculture led by its Chairperson, Dr. Grace Mutua, the CECM for Agriculture, Emanuel Kisangau, the Value Chain Specialist in the office of the Governor, Dr. Temi Mutia, the NYC – Chairman, Aggrey Nzomo, the Kitui Youth Chairman Mr. Moses Munyalo, thr top Leadership of various Ndengu Farmers CO-operatives and members of the public.
