Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua on Tuesday launched ploughing tractors for Machakos farmers, the Governor was joined by the MCA for Mumbuni North, Hon. Paul Museku, and Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Urbanus Musyoka
The distribution of free seeds to the farmers of Machakos County has also launched att Ivumbuni village, Mumbuni North Ward.
The seed distribution project is part of the Government extensive agricultural program for food security in Machakos County, to ensure that we no longer feature in the list of Counties receiving food aid (mwolyo) from donors or the National government.
Other Interventions that the county government have invested include providing subsidized fertilizers, tilling tractors for every ward, sinking and equipping boreholes, providing quality extension services to the farmers, distribution of day-old chicks and the greenhouse program.
This seed distribution program is very specific in catering to the less privileged in society, the poor, orphans etc and over 40 tonnes of green grams and beans will be distributed across the 8 sub-counties.
The plan to ensure Kenyans don’t die from hunger must be strategic by focusing more and empowering the poor. They are the most vulnerable especially during times of drought and famine.
Machakos is a true testament that with proper planning, even the driest parts of the Country can survive the harsh climate. It has been done in Israel, we are doing it Machakos and can be replicated in other arid areas the governor said.
