By Sen. Enoch Wambua
I thank God for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kitui in the office of the Senator, Kitui County. I thank the electorate for voting me to occupy this office at such a time as this.
We are all in agreement that Kitui deserves an extra county (Mwingi) for effective service delivery. We may have different views as to where the boundaries should lie and that is okay.
I plead with each one of us to debate this matter soberly and with a view to enriching the push for a new county which means more resources, more jobs, more business opportunities and faster development for our people.
It is not easy to handle a Constitutional Amendment Bill both in Parliament and in public because an entire country is being called upon to appropriate benefits for one county.
But I see this as a golden opportunity to put our county in the national, indeed global, map.
Let us not squander this great, God-given opportunity.
During public participation, all interest groups (teachers, farmers, clery, professionals in all fields, boda boda riders, mama mbogas, matatu operators etc) will have an opportunity to give their views.
Let people prepare memoranda about what they want and wait to present the same to the Senate Standing Committee on Legal Affairs during public participation.
In the meantime, let the debate continue. But kindly debate soberly.
Ends.
