The former chairperson of the Kitui Banana Women Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited and women’s trainer was laid to rest on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
The 83 years old Alice Mumbi Malonza was laid to rest at her Kwa Ngindu Village home in Kwa Ngindu Sub-location, Kyangwithya East Location of Kitui Central District in Kitui County.
Malonza died at the Jordan Hospital in Kitui Town on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 aged 83 years.
Kitui County Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu was among the mourners and she addressed the mourners among others. After completing her education in 1954, Malonza was employed in the Kenya’s agriculture ministry in 1955 to 1957 and then transferred to the culture and social services ministry as the women’s trainer from 1958 to 1960.
She ventured into business in 1971 until her retirement in 2016. In 1974, she founded with other women the Kitui Banana Women Self-help Group. And in 1978, they converted the group into a savings and credit cooperative society.
She was the society’s third chairperson from 1981 to 1993. Malonza is survived by four daughters and three sons among them the Pinnacle News Agency Managing Director, Mr. Titus Mwendwa Malonza and South Eastern Kenya University lecturer Professor David Malonza, many grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
