Kitui West Constituency on Monday, 13th October 2025, witnessed a major milestone in rural electrification as the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in partnership with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) commissioned key energy projects. The event, hosted by Kitui West Member of Parliament Hon. Edith Vethi Nyenze, marked a new dawn for residents who have long yearned for reliable power access.
The ceremony, graced by the Principal Secretary for Energy, Mr. Alex K. Wachira, CBS, saw the official commissioning of the first floodlight project at Katheka Market and the power connection project at Sangala Primary School. These initiatives are expected to enhance security, improve the learning environment, and stimulate business activities in the area.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Nyenze reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that every part of Kitui West benefits from government development programs. She noted that access to electricity remains a key driver of social and economic empowerment, adding that the projects would uplift local enterprises, schools, and households.
On his part, PS Wachira lauded the collaboration between NG-CDF and REREC, emphasizing the government’s resolve to accelerate rural electrification across the country. He said the Ministry of Energy remains committed to lighting up all corners of Kenya, noting that such projects directly support the government’s agenda of improving livelihoods through infrastructure development.
