Kitui Trade Minister Arrested

On Thursday, 27th 2020 – EACC detective from Machakos arrested Kitui Trade County Executive Member Mr Philip Mutinda Mumo.

Mumo’s arrest follows a protracted tussle between the Executive and the Kitui County Assembly that impeached Mr Mumo over alleged use of fake documents to acquire his position.

Philip Mumo the brainchild of Kitui County Textile Center ( KICOTEC) which is celebrated and adored by the entire nation is among the most powerful confidants of Governor Ngilu, he is scheduled to appear in court today.

The arrest was in relation to an investigation into allegations that Mr. Philip Mutinda Mumo presented a forged degree certificate purportedly issued by Mt. Kenya University which was the basis for his appointment as a CEC Member.

He will be arraigned in Anti-corruption court in Kitui to answer to the following charges:-

1. PROVIDING FALSE INFORMATION TO THE KITUI COUNTY GOVERNMENT CONTRARY TO SECTION 46 (1) (D) AS READ WITH SECTION 46 (2) OF THE LEADERSHIP AND INTEGRITY ACT, 182 LAWS OF KENYA

2.DECEIVING THE KITUI COUNTY GOVERNMENT CONTRARY TO SECTION 46 (1) (b) AS READ WITH SECTION 46 (2) OF THE LEADERSHIP AND INTEGRITY ACT, CAP. 182 LAWS OF KENYA

3.UTTERING FALSE DOCUMENT CONTRARY TO SECTION 353 AS READ WITH SECTION 349 OF THE PENAL CODE

4.UTTERING FALSE DOCUMENT CONTRARY TO SECTION 353 AS READ WITH SECTION 349 OF THE PENAL CODE (CAP 63).
