Kitui Teachers Sacco conducts zonal directors elections in three of its eleven electoral zones
The Kitui Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited has conducted its zonal directors elections in three of its eleven electoral zones,The elections were conducted in the Kitui Central/Katulani, Mutomo/Ikutha and Mwingi East/Ngomeni electoral zones.
For the Kitui Central/Katulani Zone, the elections were held at the Kitui British American Tobacco (BAT) Grounds in Kitui Town where an official from the Kitui County Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Development Ministry Alice Zakayo was the presiding officer,
And Caleb Kioko was the presiding officer for the Mutomo/Ikutha Zone’s elections that were held at the Mutomo Academy in Mutomo District while Simon Ireri was the presiding officer for the Mwingi East/Ngomeni Zone’s elections that were held at the Mathuki Primary School in Mwingi East District.
The County Cooperatives Director Francis Mutuku was the returning officer. Charles Mutinda Muema emerged the winner in the Kitui Central/Katulani Zone’s elections after garnering a total of 491 votes to defeat Harrison Maluki Nyumu who got 451 votes. Nyumu was defending his seat.
The contestants were three-Harrison Maluki Nyumu, Charles Mutinda Muema and Ben Kimeu Kilonzo. But Kilonzo was barred from contesting by the presiding officer for having less than 50,000 share capital at the sacco. According to the Kenya’s Cooperatives Act, a member can’t contest for a zonal director seat when she or he has less than 50,000 share capital.
Nyumu had 113,000 share capital and Muema had 50,000 share capital and Kilonzo had 10,000 share capital. Nyumu accepted the defeat. He thanked the members for having elected him as their zonal director for three 3 years consecutive terms.
He also wished Muema all the best as his successor. I thank you. You have elected me since 2011 and I have served you for three 3 years consecutive terms,” Nyumu told the members. And I wish Muema all the best in his leadership as your zone’s director,” he added.
In his speech, Muema thanked the members for electing him as their zonal director. “I thank all those who have supported me and those who have prayed for me and those who have voted for me. I thank you all for the support.
You have assisted me to deliver to the members of the Kitui Teachers Sacco,” he said. “Today is one of the greatest days in my life,” the cooperator said.
I thank you all. God bless you. God bless our Kitui Teachers Sacco, Muema added. “I assure you that I am going to serve you effectively and efficiently because it was my desire to serve you as the Kitui Teachers Sacco,” Muema told the members. “This is not my win as a person.
It is the God’s win,” he added. I congratulate Mr. Nyumu for his worthy campigns, Muema said. The occasion was also addressed by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui County Executive Secretary Simon Mutunga Nding’o.
And regarding the Mutomo/Ikutha Zone’s elections, Pheles Mathenge returned unopposed as the zonal director. And Muema Kithome also returned unopposed in the Mwingi East/Ngomeni Zone’s elections.
