Makueni County Assembly speaker hon. Douglas Mbilu was on Tuesday arraigned in Makindu Law court to answer charges of organizing illegal demos.
Embattled Speaker Douglas Mbilu was later released by Makindu Law court. Hon Mbilu was accused of organizing illegal demos in Makeuni where properties were destroyed during the melee, his lawyer, a high court lawyer and kitui speaker Hon Kevin Kinengo led the spirited legal fight to save him from the jaws of law.
The release of Mbilu is seen as a significant step towards restoring faith in our democratic institutions. However, it also highlights the need to strengthen our mechanisms for checks and balances, ensuring that such instances are not repeated in the future.
