Kitui County Assembly Speaker hon Kevin Katisya Kinengo has taken issue of MCAs paying taxes on Car Reimbursement yet the MPs, Senators don’t pay.
The Speaker Kinengo was speaking Live on KBC TV on a Monday morning show, the TCD Digital reports.
Members of Parliament and Senators In Kenya don’t pay tax on car reimbursement but MCAs are forced by the state to pay.
the young speaker said it’s unfair to subject MCAs into paying heft taxes on reimbursement while members of parliament are walking Scott free..
For natural justice to be seen to be done to MCA in Kenya, the ward legislators should be treated just like other leaders, kinengo noted.
“MCA is perceived to be an inferior leader who is being forced by the KRA to pay taxes. For us to inculcate this culture of paying taxes, MCAs must be treated fairly like other leaders, the kinengo added.
The Speaker said, they raised the issue with the deputy president hon Rigathi Gachagua, and the KRA team is yet to respond to their memoranda
“Glad to have met Hon. Danson Mungatana, Senator Tana River county after an interview at KBC Channel 1 TV. We agreed to have a formal meeting to discuss the conflicts between the people of Kitui County and Tana River county along the border of the two counties” Speaker wrote on his social Media account.
