On Thursday, October 1st, 2020 – County Government of Kitui is ready and fully compliance to receive climate change funds in 2021.
This was confirmed after team of technical experts on climate change financing both from the National Treasury and the Council of Governors (C.o.G) led by madam Eunice Fedha who visited Kitui County to assess the implementation of the climate change actions.
In a meeting which was chaired by Kitui County Minister for Tourism, Sports and Culture who is also the Ag. County Minister for Environment and Natural Resources Hon Patrick Koki Musau.
The Minister was accompanied by the County Treasury Minister Hon Bernard Katungi and the County Secretary Dr. Joshua Chepchieng in his boardroom,
“It was confirmed that, Kitui County on its part has enacted Kitui County climate change fund regulations 2018 and various climate change structures are also in place”.
The County capacity assessment exercise on the readiness to access and implement climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in the coming year 2021 is an ongoing process in all the 47 Counties which is being conducted by officers from those two offices.
The main aim is to assess how prepared Counties are and in particular they had visited Kitui County to establish its readiness for the climate change funds which will be accessible by March 2021.
Also present in the meeting the Environment and Natural Resources Ag. Chief Officer Everlyn Musembi, Climate change Director Frederick Kimwilu, Environment Assistant Director Dominic Mumbu, Mutitu Kaliku Ward MCA Hon Anastaciah Mathi who was Ag. for the chair County Assembly Environment committee among others.
