On Wednesday, April 26, 2023 – Kitui County Environment and Forestry officers led planting of 1,000 bamboo plant seedlings along the Kalundu river banks as part of the county government’s efforts to rehabilitate catchment areas and conserve the environment.
Speaking during the exercise, Deputy Director for Environment Benjamin Mukulo termed bamboo plants as among the fastest growing plants on earth with numerous benefits including reduction of greenhouse gases emissions, animal feed and medicinal value.
Mr. Mukulo further urged residents in other parts of Kitui County to embrace planting of bamboo plants citing their high survival rates even in arid and semi-arid areas.
He was accompanied by Deputy Director for Administration at the Environment Ministry and County Senior Forestry Officer Everlyne Kitavi, among other officers.
The exercise was done in collaboration with Kitui Municipality officers and local community members.
