Kitui South residents have petitioned the government to disarm rogue Somali camel herders or give them guns for protection against their aggressors.
The residents said the heavily armed herders have been giving them sleepless nights for decades whenever they are searching for water and pasture for their camels leading to protracted battles in their farmlands.
“Let the government train locals as Kenya Police Reservists and give our people guns to protect our porous border in a bid to deter the camel herders from ravaging our farmlands leaving our people destitute,” Mp Mbai added.
Speaking to the Media, Kitui East Member of Parliament Hon Nimrod Mbai and his counterpart for kitui South constituency Dr Racheal Nyamai asked appealed to the government through the Interior Ministry to respond to distress calls from Residents.
Taking to his social media site, Kitui East Mp Nimrod Mbai, said, “It is very unfortunate that Camel Hunders are back in Mutha and Imumba area and the government is very reluctant in pushing them away from our homes, farms and water points, They are terrorising our people right to our homes and schools”
I have fought this phenomenon for the last five years successfully but with a lot of sacrifice.
From now, I am giving the Kitui County Commissioner five days to push the Camels away from Mutha and Imumba area failure to which we will do it in the best way we know.
I will tour the area this coming Monday.
