Kitui Mp Intercept Lorry Carrying 21 camels


On 22nd March 2019,  Kitui East Member of parliament hon Nimrod Mbai has on Friday intercepted a lorry full of camels and ordered the lorry to be taken in at Kitui central police station.

The lorry was alleged to be coming from Garissa county to Makueni county slaughterhouse according to the occupants.

When the Mp ordered the lorry to stop at Kalundu near kitui town and asked them the necessary documents, They could not produce any and wanted to run away, he immediately, he called for reinforcement of Boda Boda operators to help escort the lorry to the police station.

Upon getting to the police station they were interrogated by police and told them they were going to Makueni slaughterhouse.

“The county commander contacted Makueni counterpart and the Makueni Commander said there is no camel slaughterhouse in Makueni.

The county commander ordered police to escort the lorry back to where they were coming from.

Kitui county commander also contacted the Mwingi DCC to make make sure the camels are escorted outside Kitui according to Kitui east mp hon Nimrod Mbai who spoke to county diary.

The issue of camels invasion to farmers in Kitui east, Kitui south and Mwingi central in Ukasi has been rampant from the time of immemorial.

The government has been handling the matter, but it has not been easy owing to the nature of the camel harders lifestyle who keeps moving from one area to another.
