On Monday, May 29, 2023 – The Members of the County Assembly led by the Committee on Budget and Appropriations kicked off the public participation forums on the Budget Estimates for the 2023/2024 financial year.
The 11 Billion Ksh proposed Kitui County Budget Estimates for FY 2023/2024 is the first budget for Governor Malombe after his reelection.
A section of the Honourable Members led by Hon. Zacchaeus Syengo (Voo/ Kyamatu) who is also the Chair for the County Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriations convened a meeting at Kitui Multipurpose Hall, Kitui Town and received views from the public on the proposed Kitui County Budget Estimates for FY 2023/2024.
During the exercise, members of the public passionately discussed, raised concerns, and provided valuable feedback on the proposed budget.
During the exercise, members of the public drawn from three constituencies of Kitui Central, Kitui West and Kitui Rural raised their concerns on a range of issue, key among them being fair distribution of pro-poor funds to the needy learners, re-stocking of healthy facilities with adequate drugs, and completion of stalled projects before embarking on new one.
The Exercise was also conducted in Kitui South and Kitui East Sub Counties where forums were held at Mutomo Chief’s Camp and Zombe AIC respectively.
While giving their submissions, the public called on the County Government to consider increasing ECDE classrooms, construction of more sand dams in the area to deal with perennial water shortages and also increased budget for public participation forums to ensure such forums are conducted at the Ward level.
Hon. Malinga Munyao (Zombe) and a member Budget and Appropriations Committee led the delegation at Zombe while Hon. Mary Mwende Mutune (Nominated) who is also a member Budget and Appropriations Committee led the Mutomo delegation.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Zacchaeus Syengo assured members of the public that the Committee would look into all their concerns and proposals and identify which projects would be prioritized for the good of the Kitui citizenry.
The exercise continues tomorrow Tuesday at Mwingi Resource Centre and Kyuso Market Shade for both Mwingi Central and Mwingi West and Mwingi North Sub-Counties respectively.
