Kitui Deputy Governor Dr.Gideon Wathe Nzau on Tuesday flagged off the National tree planting campaign ahead of the short rains season, October – November December season.
The exercise was launched at Kanyonyoo Border Police Training Campus over 500 trees have planted to kick start the campaign, that will be spread out to other Sub-Counties within Kitui County.
The campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in partnership with the County Department of Environment and Natural resources and Kenya Forest Service.
He was in a company of Kitui Environment And Natural Resources executive member mr John Makau,
Deputy Chief Conservator of Forest, The Commandant of Border police training campus Mr. Nyakundi,Chief Officer Environment Mr. Eng Joseph Kimanga, Head of Conservancy Eastern madam Mary Mwai, DCC – Lower Yatta and other senior National and County Government Officers.
The county government of kitui is committed to planting over 1 million seedlings in kitui for the next five yrs, this was said by the minister in charge of environment the learned counsel hon John makau.
