Kitui Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau on thurday hosted a team from Kenya Red Cross led by the Secretary General Dr. Asha Mohammed.
The Deputy Governor, congratulated Dr. Asha Mohammed for her promotion from Deputy Secretary General to the Secretary General of Kenya Red Cross, quoting that, Women should be given leadership opportunities in Kenya because they have the capacity, passion, knowledge and strength to offer good leadership.
Dr. Wathe also lauded the Kenya Red Cross for their continued support to Kitui County since the time Governor Charity Ngilu took over the leadership, such as supplying Kitui people with drought resistance seeds, supporting Health facilities as well as supporting the County in times of calamities like the case of Enziu river tragedy, among many others.
Dr.Asha Mohammed and her team are in the County, to oversee the projects which were and still being implemented by the Kenya Red Cross in Kitui County.
Some of the projects implemented in the last quarter include:
~ Rehabilitation of 2 Water boreholes in Mwingi North and 2 in Kitui South Sub Counties).
~ Donation of drought tolerant seeds to 1500 house holds in Kitui South (Green grams and Cowpeas), each house hold receiving 2kgs.
~ Support to MOH in distributing the COVID 19 vaccines.
~ Distribution of ready to use Therapeutic food to under 5 years children and,
~ Supporting the community by distributing menstrual hygiene towels.
Also present was the Chief Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development who is also the AG.Chief Officer in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Kioko Kiilu, Deputy Director Agriculture Department Patrick Kyusya and Assistant Director Water Department Philip Nzula.
