Last Mile Connectivity Lights Up Tuvila and Kyatune in Kitui South
Residents of Tuvila and Kyatune in Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, Kitui South, have every reason to smile after the official launch of the Last Mile Connectivity Project in their area. The event was graced by Kitui Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani, who represented Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, alongside Kitui South MP Hon. Rachael Nyamai, Principal Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Mr. Alex Wachira, and officials from the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
The project, implemented through a partnership between Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) and REREC, marks a major milestone in the government’s rural electrification agenda. It aims to connect hundreds of households to the national grid, bringing affordable and reliable electricity to communities that have long been in darkness. The initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth, support small businesses, and open up new opportunities for the youth in the area.
Speaking during the event, Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani commended the national government and its agencies for prioritizing rural development through energy access. He emphasized that electricity is a key enabler of development as it improves education standards, enhances healthcare delivery, and promotes entrepreneurship in local markets. He reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to work closely with the national government to accelerate electrification in all corners of Kitui.
Residents, including beneficiaries like Kamuti Munyao from Kyatune, expressed joy and gratitude, saying the project will change their lives for the better. With access to power, families can now study at night, preserve food, and embrace new technologies for farming and trade. The launch of the Last Mile Connectivity Project stands as a strong testament to the government’s pledge to ensure no region is left behind in Kenya’s journey toward inclusive and sustainable development.
