Kitui Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau chaired a meeting between Kitui County Government Officials and the climate change fund team.
The meeting deliberated on the necessary intervention measures on the effects of climate change in order to identify the possible adaptation strategies in Arid and Semi-Arid counties in Kenya, Kitui being one of them.
Kitui County is characterized by prolonged dry spells, general lack of water and encroaching desertification that has so far led to repercussions on Local and National security, this in turn has led to the expansion of conflicts among neighboring communities hence retarding development and creating insecurity.
The meeting also sort for possible partnerships among Kitui County, Eco-Preneuers, The Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI), the Italian Embassy in Kenya and the Italian International Development Agency on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change and Renewable Energy Sources in ASAL counties.
The KATTI team was led by Dr. Kimali Mutuku (lecturer Technical University of Mombasa), Jeddy Muchiri (Dep.Principal Machakos Technical Institute for the blind), Dr Ochieng Kamudhaji (Strathmore University), Kiprono Langat (lecturer Kenyatta University), Juma Musyimi (Trainer Machakos Technical Institute for the blind)
County team accompanying DG where CECM’S Ben Katungi(Treasury), Emmanuel Kisangau( Agriculture and Water) Stephen Kyalo Maithya(Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development) and Patrick Koki Musau (Environment and Natural Resources).
The meeting was held at the Governor’s boardroom.
