Kitui Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau on Tuesday 19/2/2019 held a consultative meeting with Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) officers led by Joseph Karanja at his office.
The meeting discussed the need to control the threat of massive siltation in Kiambere Dam from the sand flowing from Rivers Tyaa and Karura which if not well controlled would negatively impact on the water levels causing water shortage to residents of Mwingi Central and Mwingi North who are the key beneficiaries.
The stakeholders agreed to set up a technical committee, composed of the County Government, Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority(TARDA) and a representative of local leadership of Kiomo_Kyethani Ward, to develop a formula for removing the sand from the Dam.
It was also agreed the committee would work to compile the report for the Governor in the next three weeks.
In attendance was the CECM for Environment and Natural resources John Makau, C.O Eng. Joseph Kimanga, Policy Advisor Nzungi Ngwele, Value addition Specialist Dr. Temi Mutia, among other County Officials.
