In a passionate plea during the burial of Musungu Kyumbe in Kitui East, Dr. Makali Mulu, the Member of Parliament for Kitui Central, called upon President William Ruto to take decisive action in lowering the escalating cost of living.
Dr. Mulu, who is committed to championing the cause of hustlers, emphasized that the burden of high living expenses necessitates urgent government intervention.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mulu directed his appeal to Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza, urging her to convey the concerns of the people to President Ruto. The Member of Parliament expressed the gravity of the situation, highlighting that the rising cost of living is proving to be a significant challenge for the very hustlers that the president vowed to support once in power.
Former Kitui Governor Hon. Charity Ngilu, also present at the burial, echoed the sentiments of Dr. Mulu. Addressing CS Malonza, she emphasized that while they are not opposed to paying taxes, the increasing cost of living is becoming unbearable for the hustlers. Governor Ngilu urged the Cabinet Secretary, being a woman in the cabinet, to convey the message directly to President Ruto.
In response, CS Penina Malonza acknowledged the concerns raised by the leaders and the public. She assured the people of Kitui that President Ruto is actively working to stabilize the economy and address the challenges faced by citizens.
CS Malonza implored the residents to exercise patience, emphasizing that the president is committed to implementing measures that will alleviate the economic strain on the hustlers.
The collective call from Dr. Makali Mulu and Hon. Charity Ngilu reflects the growing frustration among the populace regarding the rising cost of living. As President Ruto faces mounting pressure to fulfill his promises to support the hustlers, the urgency of addressing economic challenges becomes even more evident.
The plea from Kitui leaders resonates as a reminder that the government’s actions in stabilizing the economy directly impact the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, particularly those struggling to make ends meet in the face of soaring living costs.
