The Kitui Caritas in Partnership with Kitui County Government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development will be hosting an Outside Broadcasting(OB) Conventional Forum for Kitui County on Donkey Hides Trade, on 11th December 2019 at Kenya Forest Research Institute(KEFRI), in Kitui town.
This was agreed in a meeting which was chaired by the Deputy Governor D.r Wathe Nzau in his office and attended by officers from Kitui Caritas office led by the Program Director Ms. Florence Ndeti, today on Thursday.
The event which will receive a live coverage from the County FM and other Media houses to create awareness on Donkey Hides Trade (DHT), is expected to be attended by different stakeholders, lobby groups, well-wishers and donkey owners, from the eight Sub-Counties in Kitui County.
“Donkeys forms a critical resource in the community development by helping the rural households in their diverse transportation needs, access to water for domestic and commercial consumption, construction and trade value chains.” Says the Deputy Governor.
The demand for donkey hides has led tothe emergence of donkey theft and illegal slaughter, which deprives communities of this valuable asset although, there are other people who have profiled and treated them as conventional animals.
