The kitui county Assembly on Wednesday approved the Report by the Committee on Environment, Energy and Mineral Investments Development on the Benchmarking Exercise on Sand Harvesting and Climate Change Mainstreaming in Makueni and Kajiado Counties.
The report was moved by the Chairperson, Hon. Jacob Mbaya Kavolonza Musyoka (Mui Ward).
the report recommends the following;
That the County Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources sets a new policy framework for the sand harvesting business in the county to help regulate sand harvesting activities.
That the County Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources formulates a Bill to provide a legal framework for sand utilization, i.e. the removal, extraction, harvesting or scooping of sand from sites.
That the County Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources works faster to implement climate change adaptation projects within the Kitui County Climate Change Fund Regulationsthe such as construction of water reservoirs and rock water catchments in order to help people build resilience on climate change.
