The Kenya Utalii College and the County Government of Kitui have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Kenya Utalii College campus in Kitui Central’s Tiva area. The partnership marks a major milestone in advancing hospitality and tourism education in the region.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and supporters of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy of democracy, justice, and equality continues to inspire Kenya. The Governor eulogized Raila as a selfless statesman, a freedom fighter, and a true patriot who transformed the nation’s political landscape.
Turning to the day’s event, Dr. Malombe hailed the agreement as a significant step toward enhancing skills development and boosting local enterprise growth. He said the county will provide land and essential infrastructure — including road access, water, and other amenities — while Kenya Utalii College will handle the construction and equipping of the new campus.
Kenya Utalii College Principal and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mark Rachuonyo Ogendi, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to inclusive education and regional collaboration. He announced that 10 percent of admissions to the new campus will be reserved for students from Kitui County to nurture local talent and support sustainable development.
“Through this collaboration, we expect to enhance skills, promote innovation, and contribute to the local economy,” he said, expressing optimism that the partnership will unlock new opportunities for youth empowerment and tourism growth in Kitui.
