Governor Charity Ngilu has advised ODM luminary Raila Odinga to minimize importation of products which can be manufactured locally to boost local industries once he ascends to State House next year.

Addressing the Azimo la Umoja Western Kenya Chapter’s rally in Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega Town, Ngilu said cutting down on importation was the only way to spur local industries.

“Importing goods which can be produced locally such as sugar has maimed local factories due to unfair competition in pricing,” said Ngilu whose manufacturing agenda has earned Kitui national and global recognition.

“Sugarcane farmers and the entire Western Kenya community are banking on you as the next Head of State to formulate policies to revive and protect local industries including the battered Mumias Sugar Company,” she added.

The Kitui county boss further reaffirmed to Kenyans that the country was safe in Raila’s hands as opposed to DP William Ruto’s.

“With Raila Odinga as the president, youths will get gainful employment, the vulnerable to enjoy social protection scheme and the economy stabilized. Forget about those seeking to give wheelbarrows to our people,” she argued.
