JKUAT versity to Offer Tailor-Made” Applied Skills Training To Kitui Youth & Women On Value Addition

On Thursday 8th Oct. 2020 – A Team of Dons fron JKUAT University, paid a courtesy call to Governor Charity Ngilu in her office.

The team led by Dr. Everlyn Musenya Okoth from the Department of Food Science and Technology at JKUAT has been in the county for a week during which they offered intensive applied training on Mango Value Addition using Solar Energy.

The first batch of 20ToTs (Trainer of trainees) who benefitted from the training were drawn from, Mui Thua Farmers Cooperative; Mbitini Horticulture; Kyangunga Horticulture; NZAMKA Co- operstive; Miambani Farmers Co- opterstive; Happylands Co- operatives; Kitui West Horticture, Mwingi West Horticulture; Mwingi Central and Ithui – Bidii Green Growers.

Fillowing the training, the ToTs will train at least 20 Service Providers at their Co- operative, hence, effectively building the capacity of the Co-operatives and thus, immensely reducing the huge loses Kitui Mango Farmers experience during the mango harvesting season.

The ToTs were also trained on Value Addition of unripe Mango (commonly known as Achari, a very popular delicacy amongst coastal communities and throughout the Middle Eastern Countries.

Present during the occasion were Dr. Temi Mutia, the Value Chains / Value Addition Specialist in the Office of the Governor and Mr. James Songolo, the CO- Agriculture and Livestock Development
