Japanese JICA Partners With Kenya Institute Of Business On Joint Project To Enhance SMEs Competitiveness

JAPAN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AGENCY
JOINT WITH KENYA INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS ON JOINT PROJECT FOR ENHANCING SMEs COMPETITIVENSS.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Training (KIBT), have GC today held a seminar on “enhancing enterprise competitiveness through application of Japanese management excellence.”

The project aims to promote sustainable growth of SMEs and entrepreneurs in Kenya. It will also focus on training and on-site consultancies in the areas of quality production improvement, marketing and sales, financial management and management strategy.

Speaking during the seminar, Mr. Hajime Iwama, chief representative of JICA Kenya office, said they hope that firms in Kenya will become more productive and competitive.

Today I introduce Kega fashions which is one of the successful examples of this project. Kega Fashions is the first Kenyan company to be awarded the excellent award in the SME category during the African Kaizen Award 2022.

Kega Fashions Ltd is a manufacturing organization sustainably producing an array of apparels with a goal of creating decent opportunities for women and youth. Kega is a beneficiary of the JICA KIBT project for Enhancing Enterprise Competitiveness through application of Japanese Management Excellence. Today, Kega today was recognised and awarded the Excellent Award in the just concluded Africa Kaizen Award (AKA) 2022.
Kega won Africa Kaizen Award by implementing continuous improvement at factory. As well as waste elimination activities at workshop, As the results, it achieved increase of profit as well as decrease of defects.

The company received on-site consultation during this project and made great achievements.” Said Mr. Hajime.

The cooperation have collaborated with Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM),Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS), Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), Kenya Industrial Estate (KIE) with whom together they will make great strides in the project.

Mr.Gideon Njogu, KIBT Project coordinator stated that this project will make the Kenyan business grow to another level.

Achievement and awards today is an opener for many other projects.” Said Gideon.
