The need for devolution of additional functions and powers has become the order of the day by Kenyans, the residents and leaders from all over the country are calling for additional devolved units.
Mwingi is a town in the Kitui County of Kenya. It has an urban population of 15,970. The town is located along the A3 Road between Nairobi and Garissa, 47 kilometres north of its county capital Kitui, and 200 kilometres east of the capital city of Nairobi. It was the capital of the former Mwingi District.
Of the late is a quest by a voter in Kitui county who’s pushing for the creation of Mwingi County is Hon.Kavindu, the immediate former Embakasi South contestantst who lost in the last general election.
Kavindu has written to the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati calling for the split of the expansive Kitui county that covers a land mass of over 30,000 sq. km and Establish Mwingi County.
In his letter seen by the county diary, the former aspirant has described to the election body the reasons that he thinks must be considered for the delimitation of Mwingi County.
In his letter, he has clarified to the body that Mwingi District was created at the same year with Makueni District which is now a county.
He added that the size and the population of the Mwingi District is sufficient for the creation of an independent county.
