Highlights from Governor Charity Ngilu’s State of the County address -Kitui
☑ Rehabilitation and development of structures for collection and distribution of water; 1600 water tanks serving over 100,000 people have already been distributed. Earth dams have been constructed. Repair, equipping of new boreholes and installing solar power to some availing water to 165,000 people and 67,000 livestock.
☑ Farm Mechanization plan.* The county has 17 tractors but will increase the number to 2 tractors in each of the 40 Wards to avail them to farmers at an affordable cost.
☑In her Ndengu Revolution, 49,000,000 kilogrammes were produced putting to an end the recurring food shortage.
☑County to invest in simple on-farm technologies to improve farming.
☑ Distribution of seeds and pestcides* to farmers along riverine lands worth 30 Million.
☑County to acquire a processing and packaging plant in 2018/19 FY for aggregation, cleaning, packaging, branding and marketing Kitui Ndengu in bulk for value addition.
☑ 0ver 100,000 households registered for Kitui County Health Insurance Cover (K-CHIC) launched 3 months ago.
☑ Strategic skills development* for the youth.
☑ Investment in livestock sector.
☑The County Government focus on potential sectors for economy growth, creation of wealth and employment opportunities.
