Governor Ngilu’s flagship garment factory eyes international market

USA imported an apparel worth USD 105 billion in 2016 according to a report released by USAID Trade and Investment Hub on textile opportunities in 2017.

Over 80% of the import was from a few countries (less than 10) that were led by China, surprisingly Kenya was not one of the suppliers!

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) provides an a business opportunity for Kenya to have special access to the US market which is largely underutilized.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu’s move in setting up of Kitui County Textile Centre and her continuous drastic efforts to harness the best practices, technology and techniques for application at the textile factory is the best way to go in elevating the industry inorder to compete globally and put Kenya in the international market on apparels.
