Kitui Governor HE Charity Ngilu has explained the origin of kitui county textile Centre “Allow me share with you my Kitui experience. In February 2018, just about 6 months after I took office, I made a visit to India to market our green grams, dubbed ‘Ndengu revolution’.

On the sidelines I had an opportunity to tour Brandix Apparel City in Visakhapatnam City in India. I found all the world renown designer apparel brands being made there for export to Europe and America.

Surprisingly, the employees working at Brandix were of very low academic levels, but they still produced high quality garments for the renown designer brands in the world.
I saw an opportunity,I took the courage to set up an ultra-modern apparel factory in Kitui which we have named the Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC). We began construction in April 2018, and at the same time procured the sewing machines.

We identified and trained unemployed village boys and girls who have hardly gone beyond primary school from our 40 wards in the County. We started with 320 of them. We trusted their hands and their little education, and now they are making export quality garments.

We are now planning to go on 24 hours operation which will double this number, and set op two more plants in the next two years.
