Governor Malombe Hosts World Food Programme (WFP) Delegation in Kitui



Kitui governor Dr Julius Malombe today hosted a delegation from the World Food Program (WFP) who paid him a courtesy call in his office.

The team briefed the governor on a collaboration between WFP-Kenya, USAID-Kenya and Red Cross with Kitui County Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

The team leader, WFP’s Head of Nutrition Joyce Owigar, said Kitui is among eighteen counties earmarked for rollout of outreach services for malnourished children under five years, expectant and lactating mothers.

Ms Owigar also noted that the program will be implemented in various healthcare facilities across the county.

In his remarks, Governor Malombe assured the team of his administration’s goodwill towards guaranteeing success of the program within the projected timeframe of nine months.“My administration will give you unequivocal support. Nutrition is key to the wellbeing of my people. Therefore as their leader I must prioritize their health, especially that of the children, elderly, expectant and lactating mothers in every corner of this county,” affirmed the County Chief.

The USAID, Head of Nutrition Mr Charles said; “The WFP-Kenya in collaboration with USAID (BHA) will train healthcare workers drawn from the various healthcare facilities on treatment and management of acute malnutrition.”

Red-Cross will, on the other hand, facilitate warehousing and distribution of the required commodities to the healthcare facilities.

The Health and Sanitation team was led by CECM Dr Winnie Kitetu, Director Health Administrative Service Francis Musyoka among other healthcare officials.
