Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu has started an early X- mass gift to Kenyans and especially those in informal settlements in the urban areas of clean and affordable cooking energy from briquettes.
This message was delivered by Dr temi Mutia, the Value Chain / Value Addition Specialist in the office of the Governor during a youth training on Applied Skills Developmemt on briquette making and Sustainable Municipal Waste Management .
The one week training and the briquette making machine were financed and supported by Eastern Community Development program through the program Co-ordinator Mr Stephen Mutunga in partnership with County government of kitui.
Speaking at the same training, Ms. Jemima Muendo, the KItui County ECDP kitui office program Officer said that her organization has selected training on briquette making because it does not only fit in Governor Ngilus’ Manifesto Agenda No. 3 and 5, but it further goes on the offer sustainable solution to charcoal as a source of clean energy.
Addressing the same training the Eng. Kimanga, the CO- Environment thanked ECDP for the partnership and called on other like minded Developmemt parents to come forward and offer practical support to the youth.
The briquette making machine can be electric or Petrol powered and has the capacity to produce 1.5 tons of top quality briquettes.
The first consignment of the briquettes is expected in Nairobi informal settlements during the first week of December 2018.
Once the programme is fully operational, it will be expected to provide direct employment to about 1, 000 youths and twice the number indirectly with enormous positive effects on climate change.
The training was also attended by Mr. Mukulo, Deputy Director- Environment, Racheal Mwangangi and Eng. Faith Moki all from the same Ministry.
