Tensions are rising within the Kenya Kwanza coalition in Ukambani after a fiery exchange between Kitui East MP Hon. Nimrod Mbai and Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) leaders Hon. Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West) and Hon. Caleb Mule (Machakos).

Mbai launched a scathing attack on the two MCC lawmakers, accusing them of undermining unity efforts in the region by allegedly rejecting Vincent Kawaya’s appointment to lead President William Ruto’s Boda Boda empowerment program in Ukambani. The outspoken legislator termed their behavior “politically insane,” warning them against sabotaging government projects intended to benefit locals.

According to Mbai, Kawaya’s appointment was sanctioned by the President’s office and represents the government’s broader plan to empower youth in the transport sector. He insisted that no leader should derail such initiatives for personal or political gain.

The confrontation highlights growing cracks within the Kenya Kwanza coalition in Ukambani, as factions jostle for influence ahead of the 2027 General Election. Observers now say the spat could reshape regional alliances and test President Ruto’s grip on the region’s political dynamics.
