In a recent interview with NTV kenya, Outstanding Mwingi West Member of Parliament hon Charles Nguna expressed his belief that devolution was the best gift for Kenya.
Devolution is the process of transferring power and responsibilities from the central government to local governments. According to Nguna, devolution has brought about positive changes in Kenya by empowering local communities, promoting economic growth, and addressing regional imbalances.
Nguna emphasized that devolution has empowered local communities by giving them the ability to make decisions and solve their own problems. In the past, all decisions and policies were made by the central government, resulting in a disconnect between the government and the people.
With devolution, County governments have the authority to create policies that cater to the specific needs of their communities, leading to better governance and accountability. Additionally, devolution has brought about economic growth by promoting investment and development in previously neglected regions.
This has led to job creation, improved living standards, and reduced poverty levels. Moreover, devolution has addressed regional imbalances by ensuring resources are distributed equitably. By allocating funds based on the needs and priorities of each region, devolution has enabled previously marginalized areas to access infrastructure and services, reducing disparities across the country.
Despite Devolution having a great impact on Rural economies, Corruption has been the greatest impediment to it’s success. As we mark 10 Years of Devolution, it’s apparent we can only strengthen and not abandon it, Mp Wrote on his social media.
The country is celebrating the Devolution At 10 at Uasin Gishu county, in a national conference held at Eldoret sports club, the TCD digital reports.
The issue of corruption has really tainted devolution and also the issue of employment; some of the staff just go when they don’t have much to do thus bloating the recurrent expenditure: Charles Nguna
In conclusion, Member of Parliament Nguna’s endorsement of devolution as the best gift for Kenya highlights the positive impact it has had on local communities, economy, and regional equity.
