On Wenesday, 3rd May, 2023 – kitui Deputy Governor hon Wambua Kanani officiated the commissioning of kaliwa water project in Mumoni, Mwingi North.
Residents of Kaliwa in water-scarce Mumoni Ward, Mwingi North Sub-County, can now breathe a sigh of relief following commissioning of Kaliwa Water Project.
The project, which is expected to serve over 1,200 households and approximately 3,000 domestic animals, has been rehabilitated through desilting and expansion to a storage capacity of 43,168M³ from an initial capacity of approximately 3,000M³.
Speaking when he presided over the handing of the project to the community, Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani affirmed Governor Julius Malombe’s pledge to decisively address water problems across the county.
The Deputy Governor who was representing Governor Dr Julius Malombe in that ceremony, noted that the residents will no longer trek for kilometers or spend long hours in search of water.
“The County Government, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Malombe, will work closely with development partners to mitigate water challenges facing our people through prompt interventions,” emphasized the Deputy Governor.
The project was jointly implemented by Kitui County Government, National Agricultural Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) and Kaliwa community members to increase mango productivity of the targeted 64 farmers in Kaliwa through sustainable land management practices to improve livelihoods.
Accompanying the Deputy Governor was CECM Dr Stephen Kimwele (Agriculture), CECM Peter Nkunda (Water), C.O Nelly Mutisya (Agriculture), C.O Gladys Kivoto (Water) and Livestock Deputy Director Dr Josphat Maluki.
Also present were the Mumoni ACC John Ndirangu, the area MCA Hon Kasinga, Mutitu/Kaliku MCA Hon Aaron Kasele and his counterpart from Kiomo/Kyethani Hon Musyoka(Chair Agriculture committee) and NARIGP Coordinator James Kasoi, among other County and National government officers.
