Kitui County constitutional Brain Wakili Nzamba Kitonga has gone to be with the Lord today evening on Saturday 24th, October 2020.
Philip Nzamba Kitonga (born 1956) in Kitui County is a Kenyan lawyer and politician.
He has held many positions in his career but he is best known for being on the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review (CoE)that drafted the new Constitution of Kenya.
Kitonga died of Cardiac arrest on Saturday evening, a government official said quoting the family. He was aged 64.
He suffered cardiac arrest,” the official said.
Kitonga’s death is a big blow to the legal fraternity and the country, coming two days after the document he helped craft is under scrutiny with the new proposals contained in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, which is aimed at changing the 2010 Constitution.
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was among those who broke the sad news.
“It is with profound shock and sadness that I have learned of the passing on of one of Kenya’s finest constitutional lawyers this evening, Philip Nzamba Kitonga”.
Born and raised in Kitui, the late Nzamba Kitonga beat all odds to not only become an icon in Kenya’s legal fraternity, but to serve as the President of the East African Law Society, and a member of the Committee of Experts that delivered the Constitution of Kenya in 2010, alongside many other outstanding achievements.
My thoughts and prayers go to his grieving family, friends, the legal fraternity and all the people of Kenya on the loss of this brilliant son of the soil. Indeed it is a great loss.
May God bless and rest his soul in eternal peace.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
