Ag County Secretary Alex Kimanzi accompanied officials of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui in a tour of the Kitui County Textile Centre {KICOTEC} earlier today.

The officials included the First Vicar General Fr. Joseph Mwongela, The Second Vicar General and Finance Administrator Fr. John Mwandi, Education Secretary Fr. Julius Muthamba and Administrative secretary to Catholic Bishop Fr. Jefferson Mutinda.

Commenting on the already operational factory at Syongila, Fr. Joseph Mwandi said the factory would offer a sustainable space for improved clothing sector in the county.

He said the opportunity presented by the County Government will scale up growth and create enabling environment to build the sector that is on a recovery path after decades of inadequacy and inefficiency citing lack of a garment making plant in the area.

In moving away from a reliance on imported garments, the county seeks to expand in manufacturing capacity and improve on sustainable development that encourages long-term prosperity for the entire region and country.

Schools are a key stakeholder in the sector that seeks to mend existing gaps and bolster the county’s economy.
