Kitui County is a county in the former Eastern Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Kitui, although Mwingi is also another major urban center. The county has a population of 1,012,709. and an area of 24,385.1 km². Area: 24,385 km² Estimated Population of 1.013 million according to the 2009 census.
The county has experienced seriously clashes with camel herders who come all the way to kitui in search of pastures, and some criminal elements within herders have continued to kill, assault and rape.
The Government had ordered all the illegal structures to be brought down at inyali in kitui South game reserve after the leaders led by the Governor Ngilu petitioned the Interior Cs Dr. Fred Matiang’ i
In a swift Reaction, The owners of the camel went to court to stop the process and we’re given conservatory orders, Apparently, Kitui County was served with court papers twice in the Mutomo Shifter land matter.
The judge even asked the county to appear in court to respond to the application but the county legal team did not appear in court or instruct a lawyer.
Justice Kariuki in Garissa issued the orders after he was satisfied that the county has been served and had shown no interest in the matter.
The papers shown to the judge had been received and stamped by the county. Not once. But twice. Clearly, there is something wrong. There are people who want to sabotage the Governor’s work. Sadly, they are the same people she relies on to help her serve wananchi.
Governor might not be aware, if there was a court process, it is alleged some of the people within the power circle take their time to take action.
Again it professed that people within Ngilus leadership issue instructions on these matters casually.
The County legal team is on the spot for not taking up the matter with the seriousness it deserves or perhaps, the matter was given to someone who has little competence, or the matter is not of the concerns to them.
Or perhaps, the matter is being handled by someone who doesn’t even know how Kitui South looks like.
