Kenya is in mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, who passed away at the age of 80 while undergoing treatment in Kochi, India.
Sources close to the Odinga family confirmed that the veteran opposition leader and longtime champion of democracy died on Wednesday morning after a period of illness. He had been flown to India several days ago for specialized treatment.
Raila Odinga, fondly known as “Baba” by his supporters, was a towering figure in Kenyan politics for over four decades. He served as the country’s second Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013 under the Grand Coalition Government following the disputed 2007 General Election.
Throughout his political life, Odinga fought tirelessly for multi-party democracy, social justice, and constitutional reforms. He was instrumental in the push for Kenya’s 2010 Constitution and remained a central figure in the nation’s political discourse until his death.
