The county team which is making its first appearance in KYISA competition made Kitui proud, placing the county 4th after losing against Tharaka Nithi County in the playoffs.
Kitui Acting Accounting Officer Madam Esther Mutemi together with The Kitui Basketball team receives a trophy and a cash prize of Ksh25,000/ on behalf of HE Dr. Julius Malombe at Tharaka Nithi Kirubia Stadium on 29th April, 2023.
The weeklong event came to a closure amidst several protests from different countries on KYISA officials flouting several critical rules to disfranchise other counties.
Kitui was onslaught, forced to play against Tharaka Nithi County, a team which had 6 ineligible players.
Against all odds, the first timer team got the highest number of players scouted by Scout Jeff from Kenya Academy of Sports. The 3 youngsters whose faces are appearing for the first time in national sports got the attention of the Scout for their agility, efficacy in ball conversion and discipline in the basketball pitch. Their talent will henceforth be natured to form the Kenya National Basketball team which is a basket for possible international engagements.
The three are Cyrus Sammy, Timothy Kyalo and Nicholas Saruni, both below 23 years and at the prime of their sporting career.
Makueni carried the basketball flag, followed by Busia, Tharaka Nithi and Kitui in the awards category.
