The County Government of kitui has embarked on a program to ensure more than 5000 bee keepers in the county reap the full benefit of the multi million industry, the COUNTY DIARY reports.
According to The senior officer in the office of the Governor, Dr Temi Mutia, says, “Research has shown that a properly managed honey industry in Kitui county could produce 400 metric tonnes of honey annually which would conservatively translate to cumulative earning of 80 million for the bee keepers.
Governor Charity Ngilu ,therefore ordered the registration of all bee keepers in the county for immediate training on harvesting and handling of honey.
The administration is buying refining machine for honey harvesters.
Governor’s idea is to see that high quality honey would not only be easily accepted in the local Kenyan market but also internationally.
Ngilu said honey is a natural resource which is a game charger and has the potential of turning around lives, “Nzuki siitu
