The race for the Kitui gubernatorial seat has heated up, with three top Wiper Party leaders vying for the ticket. Woman Representative Irene Kasalu has declared her candidacy, challenging Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua and Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu.

Kasalu, a close ally of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has been leading in recent polls, with 61% of the votes. She’s known for her people-first leadership and initiatives like “Kila Musyi Itangi,” which aims to provide water tanks to every household. Her empowerment programs for women and youth have also earned her widespread support ¹.

Mulu, on the other hand, has highlighted his leadership track record in Kitui Central, while Kiio is banking on his experience as Senator and Deputy Minority Leader. The contest is expected to be fierce, with all three candidates boasting strong connections within the party.

As the candidates make their cases, Kitui residents are eager to see who will emerge victorious. Will it be Kasalu’s grassroots support, Mulu’s leadership experience, or Kiio’s senatorial credentials that carry the day?

The outcome of this battle will not only determine the Wiper Party’s candidate but also shape the future of Kitui County. One thing is certain – the winner will have to deliver on their promises to the people of Kitui.

What do you think about the potential candidates? Who do you think should carry the Wiper Party ticket?
