Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna has sparked fresh speculation about his political allegiance after holding a consultative meeting with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi — a move seen by many as a sign of warming ties with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a statement, the legislator said the meeting focused on development priorities in his constituency, including:

▫️The completion of Kwasiku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road

▫️The Kiio Sports Academy

▫️The Migwani Market project

▫️The Thitani Technical Training Institute

▫️Electrification of unconnected areas

▫️Water supply through rehabilitation of colonial dams

▫️And youth and women empowerment programmes, as well as Mashujaa Day preparations to be hosted in Kitui County.

“We both committed to working together for the betterment of the constituency and Kenya at large,” Nguna noted.

The development meeting, however, has fueled intense speculation that Nguna could be edging closer to joining UDA — especially after reports emerged that he, alongside Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, defied Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s directive during the recent impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to insiders, UDA National Organizing Secretary Vincent Kawaya has already welcomed Nguna into the party ranks, describing his move as “a sign of growing confidence in President Ruto’s leadership.”

Nguna, a two-term MP elected on a Wiper ticket, has not publicly declared defection but maintains that his collaboration with the President is purely development-oriented.

Political analysts say his latest posture could signal a wider political realignment in Ukambani, with several leaders now working closely with the Kenya Kwanza administration despite their Wiper roots.

If confirmed, Nguna’s shift would mark yet another blow to Kalonzo’s party, which has in recent months struggled to maintain unity ahead of the 2027 general election.
