Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA, Hon. Mark Ndingo, has reaffirmed his commitment to environmental conservation by rallying the Nyanyaa community to oppose unregulated sand harvesting along Tiva and Mwitasyano rivers.

Speaking during a meeting held on Tuesday, Hon. Ndingo emphasized the need for responsible management of natural resources to prevent environmental degradation and protect community livelihoods. He noted that uncontrolled sand harvesting has led to severe soil erosion, destruction of riverbanks, and depletion of water sources across Kitui County.

The Nyanyaa community unanimously supported the MCA’s directive, agreeing that all sand harvesting activities must follow laid-down environmental and county regulations. Hon. Ndingo urged local leaders and residents to remain vigilant and report any illegal sand extraction in the area.

“This is about protecting our environment and ensuring sustainability for future generations,” he said, adding that development must go hand in hand with conservation.

County authorities are expected to work closely with local enforcement teams to ensure compliance and promote sustainable sand harvesting practices in Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward.
